Using proven concepts and materials from Pop-Up Adventure Play based in the UK, this session will introduce you to a variety of everyday loose parts, but on a larger scale. These materials used in both indoor and outdoor environments help amplify children’s curiosity and creativity, while helping them problem solve and cooperate with each other. When these activities are facilitated correctly, it will lead to positive impacts on their overall development.

Risky Play: Removing the Step Stool
Children today lack the resilience and confidence that children one decade ago had, why? Children today are more protected and any generation before us and yet we are still marinated in irrational fears for their safety and well-being. Children need to be introduced to challenging and risky behaviors at an early age to build valuable skill sets for the rest of their lives. This session will speak to the fears we hold and the influences around us, the value of risky play for developing children, and lastly tactics and techniques to create positive experiences for the children in your care.

Wildhood: The End of the Line
With the rise of technology and overall efficiencies in society today, opportunities for children to interact with nature are becoming few and far between. Screen time is on the rise and time outdoors is in steady decline, meaning lost opportunities for essential growth and development. Interactions with nature have shown to reduce or eliminate ADHD symptoms in children, increase social confidence and cognitive functioning, and even teach delayed gratification, something all but lost on most children today. This session will show the benefits of nature based education, and provide tangible tools, materials and proven examples for you to utilize in the field, both figuratively and literally!

Did That Just Happen?
We all want answers to some of the mysteries happening in children’s developing minds, and be provided more insights into their behaviors. Children often do the exact opposite of what we ask or expect, leaving us scratching our heads for answers. This session will speak to the developmental milestones that children face, the uniqueness that each child in your care possesses, and the myriad of factors that influence a child’s development throughout their lives.

We have likely all felt a lull or some negativity within a staff group, leading to decreased productivity and wasted hours. When a team works cohesive in a strengths based environment, great things tend to follow. This is very interactive and hands on session with your “team” that will follow a sequence of activities and objectives that will test your limits, challenge your senses, confuse and frustrate you, but best of all have you laughing, learning, and growing stronger together.

Self-Regulation 101
In this busy world we live in, we often don’t take the proper time to enjoy the little things, and pass by amazing growth opportunities in the name of efficiency. Children today aren’t exposed to the same amount of positive stresses and cognitive challenges as a generation ago did, leading to more anxiety and depression in the adult years. This session will explore the importance of developing confident self-regulation skills at an early age, the influence of modern society on today’s youth and professionals, and ideas to help strengthen these skills at any age.
